에베소서 1 교회의 비밀
“그 뜻의 비밀을 우리에게 알리신 것이요 그의 기뻐하심을 따라 그리스도 안에서 때가 찬 경륜을 위하여 예정하신 것이니 [10] 하늘에 있는 것이나 땅에 있는 것이 다 그리스도 안에서 통일되게 하려 하심이라 [11] 모든 일을 그의 뜻의 결정대로 일하시는 이의 계획을 따라 우리가 예정을 입어 그 안에서 기업이 되었으니 [12] 이는 우리가 그리스도 안에서 전부터 바라던 그의 영광의 찬송이 되게 하려 하심이라 [13] 그 안에서 너희도 진리의 말씀 곧 너희의 구원의 복음을 듣고 그 안에서 또한 믿어 약속의 성령으로 인치심을 받았으니 [14] 이는 우리 기업의 보증이 되사 그 얻으신 것을 속량하시고 그의 영광을 찬송하게 하려 하심이라” (엡 1:9-14)
2018년 새해가 시작 되었다. The new year 2018 is stared. 여기 이스라엘에서 새해는 9월에 있는 로쉬하샤나다. Here in Israel new year is Rosh Hashana in September. 그런데 우리 한국사람은 1월 1일을 새해로 기념한다. But we Korean do celebrate January 1st as a new year day. 새해를 이 자리에 있는 여러분과 함께 축하할 수 있음에 감사 드린다. I’m very glad to celebrate this day with all of you. 여러분 중에는 우리 교회가 뭐하는 모임인지 궁금하신 분이 있을 것이다. Some of you may be very curious about our gatherings. 한국인들이 시작한 교회인데 지금은 외국 친구들도 함께 예배하고 있는 이 모임이 뭔지 궁금하신 분이 있을 것이다. Actually we are Korean church. But nowadays we have also Chinese and Israeli friends among our gatherings. 지난 주 교회 운영위 모임을 하면서 우리 교회가 왜 존재하는지 다시 고민해봐야겠다는 생각을 하게 되었다. Last week I had a board members’ meeting for our church, and I thought I need to consider why we are here as a church. 하나님께서 우리 교회를 어떻게 인도하시기 원하시는지 함께 기도해야겠다는 생각을 하게 된다. I though I need to pray more to know how God wants to lead our church. 그래서 교회에 대한 바울의 고민이 담긴 에베소서 말씀을 여러분과 몇 주간 같이 나누고자 한다. So today and for few weeks I want to share the boof of Ephsians which tells about the church.
교회는 언제 시작되었는지 아는가? Do you know when the church started? 교회는 2000년 전 베드로의 고백 위에 시작되었다. About 2000 years ago the churchis started on the basis of Peter’s confession. 가이사랴 빌립보에서 예수님은 제자들에게 질문하셨다. ‘너희는 나를 누구라 하느냐?’ When Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” 베드로가 대답했다. “주는 그리스도시요 살아 계신 하나님의 아들이시니이다.” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 예수님이 베드로를 칭찬하셨다. ‘요나의 아들 시몬아 네가 복이 있도다 이를 네게 알게 한 이는 혈육이 아니요 하늘에 계신 내 아버지시니라’ And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 그러면서 예수님은 그에게 약속하신다. ‘너는 베드로라 내가 이 반석 위에 내 교회를 세우리니 음부의 권세가 이기지 못하리라’ And He promised to him, saying ‘you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.’ 예수님은 자신을 그리스도시요 살아계신 하나님의 아들이라고 고백하는 믿음 위에 내 교회를 세우겠다고 약속하셨다. Jesus promised that He will build my church on the faith that confess “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 그리하여 최초의 교회가 베드로의 믿음의 고백 위에 세워진다. So the first church is on the basis of Peter’s confession. 그리고 그 후 오순절 날 예수님을 ‘그리스도요 살아계신 하나님의 아들’이라고 고백하는 사람들이 생겨났다. Afterwards on the day of Shabuot there weren people who confess to Jesus, saying “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 그것을 그들에게 알게 하신 것은 바로 하늘에 계신 하나님이셨다. For flesh and blood had not revealed this to them, but only the Father who is in heaven. 그런 사람들이 삼천 명, 오천 명으로 늘어났다. 모두 유대인들이었다. The numbers of those confessing people increased to 3ooo, and 5000.
예수를 믿는 사람들이 많아지자 아주 기분 나빠하던 유대인이 있었다. When the numbers of confessing Christians were increased in Jerusalem, there was a man who feel so bad. 당시 사울로 불리던 바울이었다. He is the Apostle Paul, called Shaul at that time. 그는 예수를 믿는 자들을 잡아다가 가두는데 누구보다도 앞장 섰던 사람이었다. He was the man who took the people who believed in Jesus and held them in prison. 그런데 그가 어느 날 ‘주는 그리스도시요 살아계신 하나님의 아들’임을 고백하는 사건이 벌어진다. One day, however, he confesses to Jesus, saying that ‘you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ 그것을 알게 한 것은 하늘에 계신 하나님이었다. The Father who is in heaven had revealed this to him. 바울이 변했다. Afterwards he is changed. 바울의 변화로 소아시아와 유럽에 많은 교회가 세워지게 된다. Many churches were established in Asia Minor and in Europe through Paul’s transformation.
교회는 그렇게 유대인들을 통해 세워지게 되었다. The church was thus built up through the Jews. 그러다가 한국에 있던 여기 한국인들까지 예수님을 ‘주는 그리스도시요 살아계신 하나님의 아들’이라고 고백하게 되었다. Then the Koreans like me could confess that “Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 나에게 그것을 알게 하신 이는 바로 하늘에 계신 하나님이셨다. It was the Heavenly Father who made it known to me. 텔아비브 욥바교회는 10년 전인 2009년 5월 5일, 이 고백을 하는 세 한국 가정에 의해 세워졌다. Tel Aviv Jaffa Church was founded 10 years ago by the three Korean family who made this confession on May 5 in 2009. 당시 만든 정관에는 텔아비브 욥바 교회의 8가지 고백과 비전이 있다. There are eight confessions and visions of the Tel Aviv Jaffa church in the Constitution. 그 중 가장 첫번째가 ‘예수 그리스도에 대한 확고한 신앙고백이 기초인 교회’이다. The first vision is to be the ‘church, on which the firm confession of Jesus Christ is based.’ 지금도 “주는 그리스도시요 살아계신 하나님의 아들이심이라”는 고백은 우리 교회의 가장 첫째가는 고백이다. Even now, the confession that “the Lord is the Christ, the Son of the living God” is the first confession of our church.
유대인이었던 바울이 왜 이방사람들에게 복음을 전하고 교회를 세웠을까? Why did Paul, a Jew, preach the gospel to the Gentiles and build a church? 그것은 바울이 하나님의 계획을 알았기 때문이다. It is because Paul knew God’s plan. 바울은 그것을 ‘하나님의 뜻의 비밀’이라고 표현했다. Paul expressed it as “the secret of God’s will”. 엡 1:9, “그 뜻의 비밀을 우리에게 알리신 것이요 그의 기뻐하심을 따라 그리스도 안에서 때가 찬 경륜을 위하여 예정하신 것이니” Ephesians 1:9, “making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ.” 여기서 ‘하나님의 뜻의 비밀’이 뭘까? What is the ‘mystery of God’s will’ here? ‘그리스도 안에서 때가 찬 경륜을 위하여 예정하신 것’이 무엇일까? What is “God’s purpose, which he set forth in Christ?” 바울은 엡 1:10절에서 그 답을 말한다. Paul says the answer in Ephesians 1:10. “하늘에 있는 것이나 땅에 있는 것이 다 그리스도 안에서 통일되게 하려 하심이라.” as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. 이 말씀에 의하면 불일치로 가득한 세상이 언젠가 그리스도 안에서 통일되는 날이 온다는 것이다. According to this statement, the day will come when the world filled with inconsistencies will someday unify in Christ. 역사는 그저 무의미한 하루 하루의 반복이 아님을 바울은 알았다. Paul knew that history was not just a repetition of meaningless day. 역사는 반드시 하나님이 계획하신 영광스러운 목표를 향해 나아가고 있음을 바울은 알았다. Paul knew that history was moving toward the glorious goal God had planned.
구체적으로 그 비밀은 예수 안에서 유대인 뿐만 아니라 이방인들도 하나님의 기업을 잇는 자녀가 된다는 것이다. Specifically, the secret is that not only Jews but also Gentiles are children of God’s inheritance in Jesus. 그것을 그는 11절 이하에서 이렇게 말한다. He says it in verse 11 below. 엡 1:11-14, 모든 일을 그의 뜻의 결정대로 일하시는 이의 계획을 따라 우리가 예정을 입어 그 안에서 기업이 되었으니 [12] 이는 우리가 그리스도 안에서 전부터 바라던 그의 영광의 찬송이 되게 하려 하심이라 [13] 그 안에서 너희도 진리의 말씀 곧 너희의 구원의 복음을 듣고 그 안에서 또한 믿어 약속의 성령으로 인치심을 받았으니 [14] 이는 우리 기업의 보증이 되사 그 얻으신 것을 속량하시고 그의 영광을 찬송하게 하려 하심이라” Ephesians 1:11-14, “In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
여기서 ‘우리’는 바울 자신을 포함한 유대인을 말한다. Here ‘we’ refer to the Jews, including Paul himself. 유대인들이 예수 안에서 유업이 되어 먼저 주님께 영광의 찬송이 되었던 것이다. The Jews first became the inheritance of God in Jesus and became the praise of his glory. 한편 여기서 ‘너희’는 에베소 교회로 대표되는 이방인들을 말한다. Here, ‘you’ refers to the Gentiles represented by the church of Ephesus. 이방인들 역시 주님의 영광을 찬송하게 하려고 죄사함을 받고 구원받았다는 것이다. The Gentiles are also forgiven and saved to praise of the glory of the Lord. 바울이 꿈꾼 교회는 이처럼 민족과 언어를 뛰어 넘는 것이다. The church that Paul dreamed of is beyond nation and language. 교회의 존재 목적은 하나님의 영광을 찬송하는 백성이 되게 하는 것이다. The purpose of the church is to make a people who praise God’s glory.
텔아비브 욥바교회의 두번째 고백과 비전도 바울의 비전과 같다. The second confession and vision of the Tel Aviv Jaffa church is like Paul’s vision. 그것은 ‘하나님이 찾으시는 예배가 있는 교회’이다. The vision is ‘The church that gives the worship that God desires.’ 예배는 우리 교회가 가장 중요하게 생각하는 교회의 존재 이유이자 목적이다. Worship is the reason and purpose that our church considers most important. 특별히 이스라엘 텔아비브 지역은 업무 차 오는 한인분들이 많다. Especially in Tel Aviv, there are many Korean people who come for business. 키부츠 경험을 위해 오는 청년들이 많다. There are also a lot of young people coming for kibbutz experience. 그리고 요즈음에는 유학생으로 온 중국 청년들도 많다. And nowadays there are many Chinese young people who have come to study abroad. 나는 그 분들이 한번의 예배를 드려도 예수 그리스도를 만날 수 있는 예배가 되길 바란다. I hope them to have a worship service to meet Jesus Christ even if they attend just one worship service in our church. 그래서 쉽지 않은 이스라엘에서의 삶 가운데서 예배를 통해 새 힘을 얻는 교회가 되길 소망한다. So I hope to be a church that gives you new strength through worship in the difficult life in Israel.
텔아비브 욥바교회는 모두 언젠가는 떠나는 교회다. Tel Aviv Jaffa Church is a church that will all leave someday. 그러나 나는 우리가 드리는 이 한 번의 예배가 축복으로 이 땅에 남을 것을 믿는다. But I believe that this one worship of ours will remain in this land as a blessing. 바라기는 우리가 드리는 이 한 번의 예배를 통해 하나님의 영광이 이 땅에, 또한 여러분의 삶에 드러나기를 소망한다. Hopefully, through this one worship service, I hope that the glory of God will be revealed to this land and to your life. 그리하여 계속해서 이 교회를 통해 하나님의 영광을 찬송하는 사람들이 세워지게 되길 소망한다. So I hope that people will continually praise the glory of God through this church. 여기 있는 여러분이 그런 그런 한 사람이기를 예수님의 이름으로 축원한다. I bless you in the name of Jesus that you are one such person with us.
